This time was a little different on setting up the recipe. The Homebrew Happy Hour is now posting the recipes on BrewersFriend.com. Copied the recipe and setup my water profile and this recipe had me add 7.75 gallons of water for a 60 minute boil so I’m curious on why it just dawned on my. I never set the Anvil as the piece of equipment to brew on. Oh well I have about .5 gallons more water than needed. Maybe Ill let it boil for a little longer before starting the hops. Collected my water the night before and added in the salts. Setup the Anvil to start in the AM so the water will be at strike temperature.

Woke up and we were about 10 degrees away so I milled my grains and started the mashing right when the water hit 150 degrees F. I ended up mashing in at 150F vs 152F. As normally, about 30 minutes into the mash I shut the pump off and gave the grain bed a good stir in the top section of it. Started the pump back up and continued to mash. With about 10 minutes left in the mash I cranked up the Anvil to 168F to mash out. Pulled the grain basket once the 60 minute mash was up and let it drain. Once all drained pulled the basket and cleaned. Took a gravity reading of 1.042sf and collected 7 gallons of wort. Pulled my normal 2 cups of hot break before the boil.

Because I added a little extra water I’m going to let this boil an extra 10 minutes before adding in the hops. Added the hops and items per the recipe. With about 10 minutes left added in the wort chiller and once we got to 0 minutes left, I killed the power to the Anvil and started the chilling process. Right before killing the power I pulled a wort sample and got a gravity of 1.048sf. Quickly chilled and moved over to an Anvil bucket fermentor and pitched A09 Pub yeast and let it go. Tossed a few ice packs on the fermentor to get down to 67 degrees F as I was able to cool it down to 78F with the wort chiller.
