English Mild Brew Day 5-3-2023

This is one of the first brews in a while in which I started after 3pm. It is good as I plan to do more of these after work during the summer. So starting this morning I started to collect the RO water required for this brew, added in the salts as per the recipe. Also as soon as I could I started the Anvil up to start heating up my water, while that was happened I also milled the grains.

Once the water hit the 154F(67.7C) I added the grains and started the pump and timer. With about 30 minutes left in the mash I turned the pump off and gave it a stir. 10 minutes left in the mash I started to crank up the Anvil to 168F(75.5C). Let the wort sit at the 168F(75.5C) for a little bit before pulling the grain basket. Let the wort drain and turned the Anvil up to 212F(100C) while the wort continued to drain. Tilted the basket on an angle to finish draining and ended up cleaning up what I could. Took a gravity reading of 1.033SG. At about 200F(93.3C) I pulled about 2 cups of hot break off.

Once the boil started I started to add in the hops as per the recipe. With about 10 minutes left in the boil I added in the wort chiller and at the end of the boil pulled a wort sample to get a gravity reading of 1.035SG. and started to cool the wort as quick as I could down to 70F(21C). I did realize after I reversed the hops and put the .5 oz in at the 60 min make and the .75 at the 10 minute mark, Oh well. After cooling down transferred to the fermentor while continuously pumping air into the wort. Pitched the yeast and continued to clean up the rest of the equipment.
