So this group of Session IPA’s have been great and now going to try another combinations. This time I’m going with Amarillo and El Dorado. I’m really nice trying out these different combinations. The night before I pulled my water and added in my brewing salts, and setup my Anvil to turn on at 5am to have my brewing water at temperature by 6am when I typically start to brew.
The water was ready to mash in around 6:20AM and I mashed in the grains and started the pump. At about 30 minutes into it I stopped the pump and gave the grains a good stir and turned pump back on to finish out the mashing steps. Once I got to about 4 minutes left in the mash I turned the Anvil up to 100% and 168F(75.5C) to mash out for about 10-15 minutes. After mash out, pulled the grain basket, turned the Anvil up to 212F(100C) and let the wort drain out. After a few I pulled the grain basket and tilted which allows the wort to continue to drain. Pulled the grain basket once the wort stopped dripping and pulled a gravity sample of 1.039SG. Once the wort hit 200F(93.3C) I pulled 2 cups of hot break off of it.
Boil started around 8:15am and this is an easy brew as there really isn’t much to do until 50 minutes into the boil. Added per the recipe and added the wort chiller around 15 minutes left in the boil. After the boil I chilled down to 180F(82.2C) and added in the hops for about 10 minutes and then continued to cool down the wort to 70F(21C) and transferred to the fermentor while pumping in air. I had two yeast packets and decided to pitch the one from 11-22. If it doesn’t kick off by tomorrow ill pitch the other pack I have that is fresh. Pitched the yeast at 10:00am and was all cleaned up by 10:10am. That was a very fast brew day. Lets see how this version turns out.
