Dirty Bucket Brewing Session IPA Brew Day 3-2-2025

So decided to brew up another beer before the cruise and decided on an IPA as I’m running of my IPA and that is my wife’s favorite. So with that I had the grains and went to the store to get some hops. They didn’t have exactly what I want but pretty close and the yeast was a little old for my liking. Still go the yeast and decided to make a starter the night before. I also collected the water, added the minerals, and ground up the grain. Setup the Anvil to be ready for me in the morning when I wake up.

@06:28 added in the grains to the 156F(68.8C) water and started the timer. with 29 mins left in the mash I stopped the pump and gave the grain bed a good stir all the way down and continued with the pump. @07:41 had the basket on a tilt and cleaned up what I could while letting the wort drain off. @08:06 hit 200F(93.3C). Pulled a gravity sample of 1.040 SG. @08:16 hit the boil and started my timer.

Not a lot to do with this boil which are the beers I tend to like to drink. With 10 minutes left in the boil, added in the yeast nutrient, Irish moss, and the wort chiller. At the end of the boiler took a graivity reading of 1.043 SG and dropped the wort to 175F(79.4C)@09:18 and tossed in the whirl pool hops for about 10 minutes of soaking them before continuing to cool the wort down. I love the cold ground water had the wort down to 78F(25.5C) around 09:40. Tossed in the yeast starter and let it go. @10:00 all cleaned up

@18:00 on March 4th I added in the dry hop. This fermentation kicked off hard in a few hours of pitching yeast and the next morning was hammering away. Still have high krausen and slowly fermenting when added in the hops but mostly complete. I did add a small heater near by to keep it somewhat tempered.

@08:20 I started to transfer over the IPA. I didn’t take a sample but I also didn’t want to open the fermentor. Transferred over to a keg and took a sample at the end and got a reading of 1.010 which is what I figured it would be coming in at 4.33%. Transferred over to a keg and placed in my refrigerator to carbonate up. Has nice aroma and taste.
