Posting this one a little later. Typically I would write this up as I’m brewing the beer. Over the past few weeks I have been reworking my home network so couldn’t post on the day of the brew because of it. I took good notes, as I normally do, and took pictures.
With that said, as I normally do, I collected the water the night before and added in my salts and setup the Anvil to be ready for me to mash in at 6 am. Woke up the next morning and mashed in the grains. This was definitely a thick mash. After about 30 minutes into the mash I had gave the grains a good stir to make sure we are getting good conversion. I leave the last 1/3 of the grain bed alone while I do this. Turn the pump back on, does get cloudy but clears up pretty quick. Pulled the grain basket and let it drain. Pulled a gravity sample of 1.052 SF.
Cranked the Anvil Foundry up to 100% 212 F and waited. Once it hit about 200 F I pulled my typically 2 cups of hot break. Not sure why I do it, I do have pretty clear beer and should not do it one time to see. Maybe a side by side experiment. 8) Came to a boil and started additions per the recipe. Added the chiller with about 10 minutes left and turned on the chilled water once the timer went off and shut off the Foundry. It cools pretty quick with the ground water this time of year and quickly transferred over to the fermentor. I splash a lot while transferring and pitched the yeast. My next brew I purchased an air pump to aerate the wort. More to come on that. Pulled a gravity sample of 1.055 SF.
