This brew I was planning on to do at my camp site last weekend but things came up and wasn’t able to get it done so time to get it done today. The night before I captured my RO water and added int the salts required per the recipe. Over shot how many gallons I needed but oh well. Drained out about 1.5 gallons to get me to the 7 gallon mark. When I woke up the next morning I got up a little early so I had to wait for the water to heat up but I did forget to get the grains together the night before so it gave me some time to do that this morning.
Added grains at 6:20AM where the water temperature was only 151F(66C). when I placed the grains and when I was complete the water was at temperature so I started the mash countdown. @6:53 and 30 minutes into the mash I stopped the pump and stirred the grains in the bag and restarted the pump. @7:15 turned the Anvil up to 168F(75.5C) to mash out. @7:23 the mash ended and gave it another 7 minutes and pulled the grain basket and turned up the Anvil up to 212F(100C). Took at specific gravity reading of 1.039SG and have about 6.5 gallons of wort. @8:02 the Anvil hit 200F(93.3C) and pulled my typical 2 cups of hot break.
@8:15am the boil started and started the boil timer. Added the chiller with 15 minutes left in the boil and added in the Irish moss and yeast nutrients at 10 minutes and started to chill down to 170F(76.6C) at 9:15am. Pulled a gravity sample at the end of the boil and got 1.042SG and had 6 gallons of wort. Added whirlpool hops at 9:17am at 170F(76.6C) for 10 minutes. @9:27 started to chill down again. This round I plan on pressure fermenting with Kveik yeast so I’m looking to cool the wort down below 80F(26.6C). @9:47 transfered the wort over to the fermentor while pumping in air with my pump through a HEPA filter. Pitched yeast and cleaned up all complete by 10:02am.
