BREWDAY – 8-17-2020

Well today I’m working on a recipe for my brother Scott. We have called it Scotts Full Moon. He really like Sam Adams Cold Snap and also Blue Moon. So with that said I have made this recipe to try and get close to the flavors he likes in both these beers.

I’m also going to be kegging up my Oktoberfest that I had put together a few weeks ago.

Started off with 6.8 gallons of water and pulled a gallon for sparging. This seems to be my best method of extracting sugars from the gains. I was going to wait for my acid since the ground was wet outside I couldn’t work on my truck so brewing first than work on my truck later. Heated to 153 and will drop temp to 150 once the grains are added. I’ll mash for 60 minutes on this. Took a PH reading in the middle of the mash was at 6.o

Ended up being very close with the pre boil gravity (1.042) so that was good. No doubt need to sparge with that gallon water, always gives me my best outcome. Got to a boil and pulled the hot break. Followed the hop and adjunct as the recipe called out.

End of boil transferred over at 90 degrees and placed in my fermentation chamber to cool down. Meanwhile I smacked the pack of yeast to prepare it for later
